Act fast, blot don't rub, and always test on a hidden spot. Work from the outside of a stain inwards to avoid spreading it. Remove laces and brush off dry debris before any wet treatment.
Dust with baking soda or cornflour to absorb the oil, leave for a few hours, brush off, then treat with a little dish soap and water. Repeat if needed.
Dab (don't rub) with isopropyl alcohol on a cotton bud, replacing the bud as it lifts ink. Rinse the area with a damp cloth afterwards.
Let mud dry completely, then brush off — wet mud smears. Grass responds to a mild soap solution and gentle brushing.
Set-in, old, or multiple overlapping stains — and anything on white canvas that's gone grey overall — are better handled by a professional clean that treats the whole shoe evenly rather than leaving patchy clean spots.
