Dubai barely rains, so people skip waterproofing — a mistake. A protector spray also repels oil, coffee, sand and pool water, the everyday hazards that actually stain shoes here. It's about stain resistance as much as rain.
Use a breathable spray designed for your material — suede/nubuck sprays differ from smooth-leather and fabric ones. Silicone-heavy sprays can darken suede, so always test on a hidden area first.
Clean and fully dry the shoe first. Spray in light, even coats from about 15cm away, let each coat dry, and apply 2–3 coats. Re-apply every 3–4 weeks for regularly worn shoes.
A professional waterproofing treatment lasts longer and covers evenly, and is usually offered as a cheap add-on when you have shoes cleaned. For pale suede and premium leather it's worth every dirham.
